MOU enhances RMIT student employability

RMIT University Vietnam and National Instruments (NI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will establish a LabVIEW Academy at the University’s Saigon South campus.

NI, the provider of systems that enable engineers and scientists to solve the world’s greatest engineering challenges, will provide the University with a curriculum package that supports both credit and non-credit courses.

“The LabView software is a well-known design automation tool in the industry which has helped design, analyse and create solutions,” said RMIT Vietnam President Professor Gael McDonald at the MOU signing ceremony.

“This exciting partnership between RMIT Vietnam and National Instruments will allow our students access to these tools and to practice their skills before they embark on their journey into industry.

“The MOU strengthens our research capabilities and allows for research collaborations with National Instruments.

Professor Alex Stojcevski, Head of RMIT Vietnam’s Centre of Technology, said the LabVIEW Academy is for anyone seeking LabVIEW education and knowledge through an academic institution over the course of a semester.

“After completing the courses, students have the opportunity, knowledge, and tools to undertake the Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer assessment and become a certified associate developer,” Professor Stojcevski said. 

“This is not only a great opportunity for RMIT Vietnam students, but also for the technology community in Vietnam and the ASEAN region.”

Mr Matej Krajnc, Managing Director for ASEAN and ANZ, NI, noted that NI’s philosophy is to enable students to ‘do engineering’ throughout their education.

“We want to empower them with the skills in using industry-leading tools. Engineering graduates who are LabVIEW-trained and certified would possess a strong competitive edge when they enter the workforce,” Mr Krajnc said.

The LabVIEW Academy will operate in the University’s new Engineering Design and Automation Lab which was officially opened at the MOU signing ceremony.

RMIT University is ranked in the top 100 education providers in the field of engineering with established research clusters in advanced manufacturing, microelectronics, telecommunications, and other areas.

The Memorandum of Understanding, signed on 24 November 2016, will be effective for a period of three years from the day of signing.
