One day or day one

One day or day one

Every legacy begins with Day One. Vu Viet Hung's started with doubt but grew through countless 'yeses' - to challenges, opportunities and community at RMIT Vietnam.

Who would've thought…

One day, I'd be a Digital Marketing student at RMIT.

One day, I'd appear on all the university's social media channels.

One day, I'd hold the mic as an MC, speaking confidently in front of hundreds of people.

One day, I'd be the one helping other students prepare for their careers.

But none of those 'one days' would've happened - without Day One.

My Day One wasn't easy. I still clearly remember the sting of the scholarship rejection. It made me seriously question whether I was good enough. That moment planted a seed of doubt. But I stepped onto campus anyway, a bit unsure, but so determined to prove to myself that I belonged here.

From that very first day, I wasn't just thinking about myself. I wanted more. I wanted to give back, to truly contribute to the community I was joining. Because RMIT wasn't simply a university to me – it was a place where I'd seen real transformation happen. It happened to my brother, Quang Vu, an alumnus seven years before me. And I just knew it could happen for me, too.

So, I started saying yes. I said yes to the unknown, to challenges and to pretty much every opportunity that came my way. I stopped overthinking and just applied - sometimes just after seeing an event flash across the digital signage. That simple mindset led me to work with so many amazing teams and departments: Student Council, Student Life, University Communications, Careers, Alumni and Industry Relations and more.

These weren't just extra activities. They were all steps toward a bigger goal: to help create a student life where people don't just study, but truly live their university experience. A place where students feel supported not only in their academics, but also emotionally, socially and professionally.

That's the legacy I wanted to build - and be a part of.

I wanted to show what a new kind of RMIT student could be: someone who goes with the flow, isn't afraid of challenges and genuinely adds value to their community. Someone who cares not just about their journey, but about lifting others along the way.

And through every role I took on, every team I joined and every student I worked with, I started seeing that impact come to life - not only in how much I grew, but in how much everyone around me did too. This is my RMIT legacy story. And it doesn't end here, because...

One day, I dreamed.

One day, I began.

And now, I continue - carrying forward the legacy I once received.
