Practice Research Symposium in Asia features public examinations and progress review presentations by graduate research candidates alongside a curated program of research-centric and social events that foreground the practitioners from the region.
Held twice a year in Ho Chi Minh City and in partnership with RMIT Vietnam’s School of Communication and Design, the PRS Asia program brings together researchers and practitioners from across Asia in lively and robust discussion, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing.
Examinations within the Practice Research Symposia are undertaken in a uniquely dynamic mode, with a live presentation given from within a physical examination exhibit, offering a robust demonstration of practice research.
This September we are excited to announce two PhD candidates for examination from the School of Architecture and Urban Design, Daliana Suryawinata and Shintaro Tsuruoka.
Following our two examinations, join us for a keynote presentation with Ho Chi Minh City based architect, Vu Tien An, principal founder of Vietnamese architectural firm, tad.atelier. Vu Tien An will present his recent practice and discuss the idea of ‘local’ and what that may mean in a rapidly transforming Ho Chi Minh City.
Together we will consider what ‘local’ might mean in Southeast Asia today - what is its value? Is the local being erased forever – or is it just being reconfigured? What are the implications for southeast Asian identity and the distinctiveness of creative thinking and practices?
Higher Degree by Research candidates from the Asia region will be presenting their research in milestone and work-in-progress presentations on Saturday and Sunday at RMIT Vietnam’s Saigon South Campus.
