RMIT Vietnam explores better ways to inform

Earlier this month RMIT Vietnam played host to the Informing Science Institute’s (ISI) 2017 Informing Science and IT Education (InSITE) Multi-conference at the University’s Saigon South campus.

Sponsored by RMIT Vietnam’s School of Business & Management, in conjunction with the University’s Centre of Digital Excellence (CODE), the week-long conference was an opportunity to share research with academics from around the world and collaborate on issues pertaining specifically to the uptake and delivery of digital technology in education.

Head of RMIT Vietnam School of Business & Management, Associate Professor Matthews Nkhoma, said that having the highly regarded InSITE conference at RMIT Vietnam was recognition of the University’s position at the forefront of transformational student experiences, ones that embrace technology, enhancing Vietnamese students’ natural agility in this area and rewarding what he recognised as a “zeal for learning” in this country.

“RMIT Vietnam doesn’t compromise on student experience,” Associate Professor Nkhoma confirmed. “We want to make sure that by the time students graduate, we have transformed them, and to do that we need to continually upgrade the skills of our teachers.”

“A conference like InSITE is an important part of that process,” he continued, “which extends to teachers’ ability to implement the best classroom learning technology possible, in order to engage students with the subject matter in as many ways as they can.”

For Dr Shaghayegh Maleki Far, Lecturer in the School of Business & Management, the conference was an opportunity for “meeting people, discussing ideas, getting feedback about my research and [cultivating] a sense of intellectual community.”

“InSITE was a good way to keep abreast of the latest techniques, get new ideas for research, and meet others working in our research area.”

Dr Far is already looking forward to the next InSITE conference to be held in Southern California in 2018.
