RMIT Alumnus awarded prize for research impact

RMIT Vietnam Alumnus Duy Dang-Pham has been awarded RMIT Global’s prestigious research award for Research Impact in the category of Enterprise.

Duy is the first person from RMIT Vietnam to be awarded the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS). The scholarship is funding his current PhD candidature at RMIT’s School of Business – IT and Logistics. Duy completed his Bachelor of Business (Information Systems) at RMIT Vietnam and followed that with an Honours degree for which he was given a Vice-Chancellor’s List Award in 2013.

For his thesis, Duy collaborated with TTT Corporation, one of the largest construction firms in Vietnam to enhance their information security systems.

“The practical values of my research are about the novel adoption of network analysis methods to identify the key employees and mechanisms for raising the workplace’s information security awareness in an efficient and effective manner,” Duy wrote in his nomination for the award.

Duy’s PhD supervisor at RMIT University, Dr Siddhi Pittayachawan, said that since the beginning of his candidature, Duy has promoted his research in order to amplify the impact of his findings in the context of Vietnam.

“Duy has published three journal articles, one accepted journal article, and four conference papers to extend the body of knowledge in this field,” Dr Pittayachawan explained.

Since the beginning of his candidature in 2014, Duy has published nine papers, some in A and A* ranked journals in the area of information systems. In total he has 17 publications.

Duy’s former lecturer, RMIT Vietnam Head of Centre of Commerce and Management, Associate Professor Mathews Nkhoma, also made note of Duy’s achievements and contributions to RMIT and Vietnamese industry.

“Duy stands out from his peers not only for his research track record, but also for his guest lecturing and participation in workshops related to e-business and information security, both beneficial for students and industry partners in Vietnam,” Associate Professor Nkhoma said.

“His research has made practical impacts on Vietnamese business and established new relationships between RMIT and industry, all of which will lead to further collaboration and the possibility of external funding in the future.”

Duy’s core research interests include information systems, security management, and supply chain management. He says the award has motivated him to continue his active engagement with Vietnamese industry, especially in collaborative research projects that produce practical outcomes and useful innovations.

“I am currently applying for funding with researchers in Vietnam and Australia to conduct more projects which focus on information security and supply chain management,” Duy said.
