How to apply to transfer to Melbourne

Transferring to RMIT Melbourne has a unique registration and application process. It’s important that you take the time to research and seek advice before you begin the application process.

  • Semester 1 (starting in February or March): From 1 October to 25 November (the year before starting to transfer)
  • Semester 2 (starting in July): From 15 February - 15 April (the same year with the transfer year)

Notes:

  • Remember to check the information on whether your program will be offered in your preferred intake.
  • Late applications may be rejected or might cause a delay in the application assessment and visa process.
  • The transfer timeline is subject to change under certain circumstances, please visit our  website and Facebook page or check the Campus Buzz and Digital Signage for latest updates.
  • Cross-campus students should apply to transfer at least 2-3 months before your current student visa expires, that allows you sufficient time to receive the new CoE and extend your student visa before your current student visa expires.

Once you accept your offer, follow the prompts to provide your tuition fee deposit online.

Note: OSHC - Overseas Student Health Cover is compulsory for all international students who apply to study in Australia. One semester’s tuition fee of the chosen program at RMIT Melbourne is also payable as your tuition fee deposit.

5. Receive the eCoE - Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment

The Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is an official document that is issued by RMIT Melbourne and used by the Australian Government. It records exactly what you are studying, including the start and end dates expected for each program, any fees paid and estimated total fees required.

  • You must have a valid CoE to apply for a student visa (visa 500) to study in Australia.
  • You must have a valid CoE while studying on a student visa in Australia.

RMIT will issue your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) after you have:

  • Accepted your offer, and
  • Met any outstanding conditions of your offer, and
  • Paid the tuition fee deposit, and
  • Paid your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) if RMIT has arranged it on your behalf, and
  • Provided formal acceptance documents and we have received them

Once all the conditions above have been met RMIT will process and issue your CoE.

For conditional Offer Letters (if students have yet to meet all the entry requirements to study at RMIT Melbourne), students will apply for a conditional offer letter to apply for a student visa (not wait until the result release of the last semester in Vietnam before transferring).

6. Apply for a Student visa

After your eCoE is issued, RMIT Transfer Office shall continue to help you with your visa application.

For cross-campus students applying for a transfer, you can extend your student visa while in Australia. The process for lodging your online visa application is similar as when you apply for your student visa for cross-campus exchange. At the 2nd time of visa application, you might not be required to have a health check or provide your biometrics.

For students currently studying at RMIT Vietnam, besides the above-mentioned fees including OSHC health cover and tuition fee deposit - equal to the 1st semester’s tuition fee at RMIT Melbourne, you also have to prepare for your student visa application related costs:

  • Health-check fee: ~2,300,000 VND (~145 AUD) (different medical clinics may have different fees)
  • Visa fee (to be paid immediately via credit/ debit card when submitting the online visa application form): ~710 AUD+ (~12,000,000 VND) (you also bear the currency conversion costs and international transfer surcharges)
  • Biometrics fee at VFS Ho Chi Minh / Hanoi: ~272,500 VND (~17 AUD)
