RMIT offers seven stages of English for University, from Elementary through to Advanced. Upon completion of the Advanced course, you have the option of joining one of our undergraduate programs.

Throughout the program, teachers review your progress by setting regular homework tasks and on-going assessments. You will receive regular, individual feedback throughout the course so that you can easily understand what you need to improve.

Entry to English is flexible and tailored to your skills and needs.

English placement test

We offer English placement tests to find your current level. The test includes grammar, writing and speaking and is conducted by RMIT English teachers to make sure you are enrolled in the correct level.

Program structure

  • Course duration: Each course takes 10 weeks (200hrs face to face).
  • Course schedule: Monday - Friday (8:00am - 12:30pm or 1:00pm - 5:30pm depending on Term start date)
  • Course levels: Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, Pre-Advanced and Advanced

Learning, teaching & assessment

Your assessments will demonstrate your capability in reading, writing, listening and speaking. They will also include technology and help you to develop independent learning skills. The tasks will include response journals, presentations, research, weekly review quizzes and group projects such as developing a website or creating a video. You will also have an end-of-course test for each skill. You must be successful in all 4 skills to progress to the next level. 


English courses and programs provided by RMIT University Vietnam are endorsed by NEAS (the Australian National English Language Teaching Accreditation Scheme). That means you are learning in an organisation that has internationally recognised English learning and teaching standards.

Teaching with technology

The English for University program incorporates technology and explores topics that are relevant to your RMIT degree program. You will work independently and in groups using applications and tools, interactive workbooks, and online research and resources to complete projects such as developing a website or creating a video. Your progress will also be supported by RMIT’s state-of-the-art learning systems by providing you with access to the specialized Independent Learning Centre and RMIT library.

Student support

One-on-one consultation with class teachers

One-to-one tutoring with an experienced teacher is available for you outside your class time  if you need to discuss your progress or to ask any questions you may have about your lessons, assignments or skills.

Independent Learning Centre (ILC)

Students can use computers in the ILC to access English software programs and RMIT’s online learning system (Canvas) for extra practice. Students can also meet with the ILC Advisor to get advice on independent learning, research skills and the creation of a study plan.

Student Support Workshops

Students can join the weekly Student Support workshops that are offered outside of class such as: English language skills, learning strategies and technologies, and career planning.

Student Clubs

Students can also join Student Clubs as a way to meet other university students, get involved in university events and gain experience in areas of interest and study. There are Sports Clubs such as basketball or badminton, Academic Clubs such as English or accounting and special interest Clubs such as dance or photography.

Communication with parents

Parents can contact the Administration Team in the School of English & University Pathways to ask about their child’s attendance, test results, participation in class and progress with their skills. Parents can also book meetings with teachers and Academic English Managers to discuss their child’s progress.

Please note that RMIT Vietnam follows RMIT global privacy laws which means that students must give permission for their information to be shared with their parents.


English for University rebate 2020

Students studying English for University courses, or English components in UniSTART at RMIT Vietnam, will receive a rebate equivalent to 30% (valid until April 30 2020) of their total English course fees paid to RMIT Vietnam when they articulate to a bachelor or master program.A rebate is offered to students of English for University. 

For 1 level (10 weeks ~ 200 hours) - 52,065,000 VND, 30% of English tuition (15,620,000 VND per level) will be deducted from the student's undergraduate or postgraduate tuition fee.


Terms and conditions of the English rebate program

The English rebate program is eligible for English & UniSTART students who remain continuously enrolled in English courses then articulate to Bachelor or Master degrees in RMIT Vietnam or Melbourne campuses.

If a postpone is required, students must submit a Leave of Absence application and receive approval from RMIT, for a maximum duration of 6 months (2 English terms or 1 higher education semester) in order to utilise the rebate program.

The rebate will be deducted from the tuition fees of the first three semesters of their bachelor or master program. This rebate is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Students will not qualify for the family or alumni discount for tuition fees relating to the English for University courses and UniSTART programs. Recipients of the rebate remain eligible for the family or alumni discount when they articulate to a bachelor or master program.


Notes on fees and charges

  1. Program fees are priced and invoiced in Vietnam Dong (VND) by level.
  2. Payment in other currencies will be converted to VND at the exchange rate on that day. Bank transfer is the preferred method of payment.
  3. The fees in USD are ONLY applicable to those international students who arrange for payment from overseas, as per Circular No. 32/2013/TT-NHNN.   
  4. A cash handling fee of VND 360,000 will be charged for all tuition fee payments made in cash to the Saigon South campus cashier. The fee does not apply to the deposit made by​ students​ ​​new ​to​ ​a course​.​​
