Equal education opportunities

ELA provides support and equal opportunities for students who are neurodiverse, students who are living with a long-term medical condition, mental health condition or disability, or a student who is a primary caregiver. The service is free, private and confidential.

Who we support

Your condition may include

  • Neurodiversity (Autism, ADHD) (with Vietnamese translation) 
  • Physical/Mobility 
  • Vision (low/no vision) 
  • Hearing (low/no hearing) 
  • Learning (dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, speech & language, processing) 
  • Neurological (epilepsy, cerebral palsy, Parkinsons’, traumatic brain injury) 
  • Mental health (depression, anxiety, bipolar, OCD)  
  • Long-term medical (diabetes, autoimmune disorders, cancer, arthritis) 
  • Intellectual

What we do

If you request our support, we will meet with you to create your equitable learning plan (ELP). We share your plan with your teachers and provide ongoing support as needed. 

Your ELP may include: 

  • adjustments to your study conditions e.g. additional time in exams, assignment extensions, alternative assessment arrangements, use of assistive devices 
  • course materials in other formats 
  • student aid staff 
  • assistive technology 

Arranging support

To arrange support, you will need to: 

  • be enrolled in a course at RMIT 
  • complete our registration form   
  • be able to provide relevant documentation about your condition from a qualified medical professional. If you don’t have documents, ELA advisors can assist you with this process 
  • make an appointment online through Student Connect Portal (log in with your RMIT account) to see one of our advisors
