Workshops

Our interactive workshops cover soft skills and personal growth. The skills you learn will help you now, at university, and later in life.

Our workshops are delivered by career advisors, RMIT’s expert educators, and industry consultants. RMIT is well known for developing academic skills alongside soft skills, so this is your opportunity take the first steps to get ready for work and life. Don’t worry - we take into account the needs of different ages in our Future Me workshops.

Our free parent-orientation workshops are offered on Saturdays before each module’s start-date and throughout the year.

Parents are also invited to join us in other workshops.

Soft skills for life

  • Communication skills: Teens need strong and clear written, verbal, visual, and digital communication skills in our increasingly networked world. Our expert teachers will help you learn to become an effective communicator.
  • Teamwork and collaboration: The ability to collaborate with others and be a team player is a skill that is required at school, in college and in every aspect of life. Join our fun activities that promote teamwork and encourage self-reflection.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving: Critical thinking is like an onion; as you peel off one layer (begin to analyse the argument), there is another layer (more questions), and another layer (deeper questions) …earn a badge by solving a problem and showing off your critical thinking skills.
  • Creativity and innovation: Innovate and collaborate - we will examine issues and themes relevant to teens and you will be inspired to look at problems and issues in different ways.
  • Global Awareness: We know you love to engage online with teens from all over the world. Find out why global awareness is important, and interact with teens from different backgrounds and cultures.

Personal Development

  • Who Am I?: Explore possible directions your future might take. Use LEGO® to “build a bridge” to to your future!
  • Social media awareness: You should have fun on the Internet but you also need to optimise and protect your online profile. Learn how you can make the most of social media.
  • Mindfulness / Dealing with stress: Learn to overcome stress and earn a new badge. Deal with exam stress, pressure from others, and overcome challenges.
  • Confidence building: This workshop will offer interesting and engaging activities to help you overcome shyness and become more confident.
  • A healthy you: Take control of your health and wellbeing in a fun way. Find the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

Prepare for the future

  • Leadership skills: Leadership skills are invaluable in group work, projects and other assignments. Find your ‘inner leader’ and take the first steps to success.
  • Time management and goal setting: Think SMART! Join our activities, become more organised, and find the secret to accomplishing your goals.
  • Public speaking: Overcome your fears, gain confidence, and find out how storytelling is a great way to enhance your presentation skills and keep your audience engaged.
  • Thinking ahead: Standout college applications: Our expert RMIT staff will guide you through the process of preparing college applications - enhance your opportunities for entry to top institutions and obtaining scholarships.
  • Dress for success: Your image and appearance can reflect your personality. Get tips on how to dress to make good first impression.
