Students from RMIT’s School of Communication & Design and School of Business & Management took part in four categories under the Student League, including Public Relations, Digital, Marketers, and Film & Integrated.

RMIT Vietnam’s Vice-President Academic and Head of School of Communication & Design, Professor Rick Bennett, said he was delighted with the results, and congratulated all of the student teams who participated – especially those who won medals – and who contributed to this excellent achievement for the University.

“Competitions like the Young Lions are a great opportunity for students to challenge themselves while developing their industry-ready skills,” Professor Bennett said.

“RMIT has a strong focus on ‘authentic learning’, so industry-relevance is integrated in every stage of the students’ journey. Students gain such experience in many ways, from internships and projects to competitions such as this.

“The skills the students have learned through Young Lions, as well as their awards, are important as they continue to build their portfolios in preparation for their future jobs and careers.”

Five top RMIT students in each category – Do Nguyen Chi Mai, Nhu Huong Tra, Nguyen Quang Huan, Nguyen Thi Truc Van and Ha Minh Hieu from both the Hanoi and Saigon South campuses – each win a trip to Spikes Asia in Singapore this September, where they will represent students from Vietnam.

At Spikes Asia they will have opportunities to learn from experts in the communications and creative industries from across the region, through a number of seminars, workshops and panel discussions.

Mai and Tra, who are studying Professional Communication, won Gold in the Public Relations category. They were given a brief on how to create a PR campaign, as well as an icon for easily recognising high-quality Vietnamese coffee. They impressed the jury with the insightful human-focused message: “The dedicated local makers/stakeholders are the reasons behind high-quality coffee beans and brands.”

Meanwhile, Huan and Van, who are also enrolled in Professional Communication, won Silver in the Marketers category which did not have a gold winner. Their challenge was to come up with a marketing campaign to raise awareness of clean air.
Bachelor of Business (Marketing) student Ha Minh Hieu and his team won Gold in the Film & Integrated category and impressed the jury with footage about true love.
