New undergraduate scholarships at RMIT Vietnam for 2008
RMIT International University Vietnam (RMIT Vietnam) is offering a series of new scholarships for the total tuition fee of an undergraduate program (currently worth at least 276,000,000 VND or 17,300 USD each, including text book provision).
Some of these scholarships will be offered for any undergraduate study program available at RMIT Vietnam, but many scholarships will be reserved specifically for four new academic programs commencing this year.
The programs are:
Scholarships can be taken up at RMIT Vietnam’s Saigon South or Hanoi campuses, subject to the availability of particular programs at each campus.
The scholarships being offered at RMIT Vietnam for programs commencing in October 2008 are intended to create more opportunities for school leavers and others with outstanding potential to obtain an international university education. The scholarships are open to Vietnamese nationals, as well as to nationals of Cambodia and Laos.

RMIT Vietnam is Vietnam’s only fully foreign-owned university, delivering internationally recognised degrees. It is the Vietnam dual campus of RMIT University, based in Melbourne, Australia, with a rich history dating back to 1887. RMIT University is one of the largest and most well-known universities in Australia with over 60,000 students, including approximately 17,000 international students.
Selection Criteria
· Applicants must be Vietnamese nationals who have graduated from a Vietnamese senior high school and are not current students of RMIT (or nationals of Cambodia or Laos with equivalent standing).
· Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence at senior high school, and/or extra-curricular activities, and recommendations from principals/ vice principals/ teachers.
· In the case of mature-age applicants who have not completed high school in 2008, recommendations will be considered from employers, community leaders and other relevant people who can attest to the outstanding qualities and potential of the applicant.
· For school leavers, applicants’ average mark for year 12 should be at least 8.0.
· Applicants should have an RMIT Vietnam placement test result for entry into Advanced level (L6.1); or an IELTS score from 5.5 (no band under 5.0); or TOEFL score from 530 (TWE from 3.5) or Internet based TOEFL from 71.
(Note: While evidence of this test result is preferred from applicants, applicants who have not already completed a placement test CAN still apply, but they will be required to complete an assessment of English proficiency if they are shortlisted. An English level equivalent to IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 530 is required before any person, including a scholarship winner, can enter into an RMIT University degree program.)
· A statement must be provided in English from the applicant on why he or she deserves to receive a scholarship to RMIT Vietnam (maximum 600 words).
· In the case of specific scholarships which are being offered for the following four new or recently introduced programs – B. Bus. (Accountancy), B. Bus. (Business Information Systems), B. App. Sc. (Information Technology), and B. Communication (Professional Communication) – applicants should include within their response an indication of why they believe they have particular aptitude for one of these fields of study. (Favourable consideration will be given to applicants who have done some basic research of their own about studies and international careers in any of these four areas.)
· Shortlisted candidates may be subject to interview before a final decision is made.
Benefits and Conditions
· The full scholarship covers tuition fees for a single degree only and may include the tuition fee for the Advanced Level of English courses (L6.1 & L6.2) but does not provide for accommodation, living expenses, travel or other personal expenses.
· RMIT Vietnam reserves the right to contact relevant schools/individuals, and organisations to check the correctness and accuracy of scholarship applications.
· Students are required to enroll in the year in which the scholarship is awarded. The scholarship cannot be deferred. The scholarship is program-specific once enrolment has occurred and cannot be transferred during a program.
· The scholarship will be renewed on an annual basis for the duration of the initial single degree (not double degree) subject to satisfactory performance of the student as determined by the University. Students will be required to pay to repeat any failed courses. Continued unsatisfactory academic performance will result in the scholarship being withdrawn.
· The University reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship at any time if the student does not observe University rules and regulations or does not progress through programs at the normal full-time rate.
· The University reserves the right to change the scholarship program and the structure of its English and academic programs without prior notice to meet its operational needs.
