Business world-wide has become more dependent on information technology and connectivity. Business Information Systems (BIS) graduates possess the skills and knowledge to bridge the communication gap that often exists between the organisation’s business managers and information system developers. They can provide the means to express business objectives, are able to analyse and refine business processes, and translate business requirements into information systems solutions.
This program is therefore designed to meet the growing needs of industry – to develop professionals equipped with a sound business background as well as the skills and knowledge to manage business information systems for a range of business settings including government, non-government and corporate settings.
This program is accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS).
This program is suited to students who have an interest in businesses as well as strong analytical and communication skills. While the focus of the program is on Information Systems (I.S.), graduates will also focus on developing solutions to business needs through I.S. enhanced processes. The student will also develop good time management skills, which are essential to cope with the competing demands of the different courses.

Teaching methods and assessment
RMIT has a specially designed Business Information Systems Lab where students can learn how to build their own networks using virtual computing technology. This enables them to access the internet without going through the University’s network, giving them more practical administrator experience. Other systems development courses are also taught in this high-specification lab with industry standard hardware and software.
BIS assessments are very practical and students will be graded based on the quality and functionality of the systems they build. This means that when students are employed for their internships they have the skills, experience and knowledge to make an immediate impact.

"Personally, I think our BIS program is really interesting. It provides adequately insights of both business and information systems. People who want to build a business will be more successful with knowledge about information technology, and people who work in IT field will work more effectively thanks to business insights and communication skills. In short, BIS gives us more options and opportunities. " Phan Nguyen Phuong Thao Bachelor of Business (Business Information Systems)
