As Head of School of Science & Technology, Professor Dimla works closely with industry to align the University’s teaching, curriculum and assessments with the needs of the Vietnamese, and broader ASEAN, economy.
He sees his role as helping all students and staff fulfill their potential, which will then help build a world-class School of Science & Technology within a world-class institution.
Professor Dimla is a chartered mechanical engineer (CEng), member of the IET and Fellow of IMechE, as well as Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) of the UK.
Professor Dimla received an MEng (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1994 from University College London (University of London) and did a PhD immediately afterwards, which was awarded in June 1998.
Prior to joining RMIT Vietnam, Professor Dimla had been Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) since March 2015. Prior to that, he was Academic Leader (Engineering) at Southampton Solent University UK and a Senior Lecturer in CAD and Engineering at Portsmouth University, UK. Between 1998 and early 2000, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at Robert Gordon University Aberdeen Scotland, before his appointment as a lecturer at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK.
