Professor Merilyn Liddell appointed RMIT Vietnam’s New President

RMIT International University Vietnam today announces its new President and Pro Vice-ChancellorProf. Merilyn Liddell Professor Merilyn Liddell.

Professor Liddell has had a distinguished academic career and a record of successful academic leadership and management in Australia and internationally.

Professor Liddell holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Family Medicine and Doctor of Medicine from Monash University.

In 2001, she led the Department of General Practice in the Faculty of Medicine at Monash University, the largest department of its type in Australia.

From 2003 to the end of 2007 Professor Liddell was the Pro Vice-Chancellor and President of the Malaysian campus of Monash University. During her tenure, she oversaw the development of its new campus, the extension of its academic programs and the development of research and research training.

Her expertise in learning and teaching was recognised by a Vice Chancellor's Award for Distinguished Teaching at Monash University in 1998.

She has published extensively on learning and teaching, including a range of publications focused on student learning in different cultures.

Prior to her academic career, Professor Liddell practiced in medicine and health in Canada, the UK, rural Victoria and Melbourne.

“Professor Liddell’s substantial educational and management experience is very important to leadership of RMIT Vietnam at this critical time of further academic and campus development,” RMIT Vietnam’s interim President Professor James Barber said.

Professor Liddell is starting her appointment today.
