RMIT Vietnam Students Visit Home For The Elderly

5/02/2010

Twelve students from RMIT Vietnam’s International Club had a return visit to Vinh Son Home for the Elderly in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, on Wednesday 3 February.

Following the International Club’s successful “Halloween Party” Event, the club raised funds and worked with Work, Careers and Lifelong Learning (WCLL) Unit, Community Relations and LIN Centre for Community Development to support Vinh Son Home. Funds were given to assist in purchasing of an ultraviolet sterilising germicidal lamp that helps facilitate the elderly health care.

About 40 elderly residents over 70 years old living under the care of Catholic nuns at Vinh Son Home. The students took treats, fruits, open hearts and caring hands to the residents. It was good to see RMIT students spending time talking with the residents, holding their hands, assisting with feeding those who were bedridden and sharing stories.

The International Club intends to visit Vinh Son every semester and spend time with the residents who enjoy seeing their young visitors. If any RMIT staff would like to attend a visit, please feel free to email International Club President Huynh Quoc Huy at s3221705@rmit.edu.vn for more information.
