Students will develop their English language skills through interactive, communicative teaching and learning resources that combines the use of print and electronic learning activities.
Levels commence at Elementary and progress through to Advanced Plus. There are five levels in total with entry levels determined through an IELTS test or RMIT English Placement Test.
English for IELTS
This course of study is designed to prepare students for the IELTS examination. This test has a number of applications including work, study (undergraduate or post-graduate level) or overseas university placements.
English for Study
This course of study is designed to complement High School English language programs and to improve English language skills. Offered part-time only it provides an opportunity for senior high school students to develop their skills ahead of studying our English for University or English for IELTS programs.”
English for Business
This course of study is designed to build skills specifically for the purpose of developing competency in the English work environment. Offered part-time only in the evenings or on weekends, it provides modules in specific areas of language that are fundamental to work place situations.
This program also provides an opportunity for students to develop their skills ahead of studying our English for University or undertaking post graduate study at RMIT University.
Teaching methods
Your class will be student-centred. This means that you have the opportunity to gain support in your learning, develop confidence using the language and increase your overal language skills. Together this enhances your ability to succeed.
Students who study English at RMIT Vietnam will develop their English and study skills through interactive, communicative teaching and a combination of print and electronic learning activities. The electronic learning activities are innovative, easy to use and linked to the language covered in the course books. The course books are copyright to RMIT English Worldwide (REW). Students receive course books for each level of the program free of charge and have access to an English Learning Resource Centre for independent study and a range of skill specific workshops offered out of class time.

Learning a new language can be hard so it is important to know that you are in the hands of experts when you enrol in a program.
RMIT Vietnam currently employs over 125 highly qualified and experienced English Language teachers many with extensive experience in IELTS examination preparation as well as English for Specific Purposes. All staff are tertiary qualified in an undergraduate discipline and have extended their qualifications with TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) credentials. In addition, many also hold Masters or higher qualifications in Applied Linguistics, Language Education and/ or Teaching.
Staff are contracted for extended periods and have been instrumental in the development of Academic English Language programs in conjunction with RMIT English Worldwide (REW).
All teachers are native speakers coming to Vietnam from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, New Zealand or South Africa.
At RMIT Vietnam teachers work in a diverse and stimulating environment which provides many opportunities for further professional development to ensure that they are kept up to date with the latest teaching methodologies and technology.
Assessment
For each module of the English for University there is a mid-course and end of course assessment of all skills. For both assessments there is a separate reading, writing, speaking and listening test. Students must achieve an aggregate score of at least 60 % in each subtest from the Elementary to the Upper Intermediate courses. For the Advanced 1 and 2 courses, the satisfactory pass rate is 70 %.
In each of the Concurrent English courses students are assessed on their ability to participate in tutorials, write academically appropriate assignments, express well supported arguments and opinions in debates and use IT for research and study effectively. A satisfactory pass rate for each course is 60%.
