Information about

RMIT International University Vietnam is the first fully foreign-owned university licensed to operate in its own right in Vietnam.

The University provides internationally recognised degrees from campuses in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

In 1998, RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia was invited by the Vietnamese Government to establish campuses in Vietnam, and a licence was granted in 2000 from the Ministry of Planning and Investment to deliver undergraduate, postgraduate, training and research programs.

Teaching began in Ho Chi Minh City in 2001 and in Hanoi in 2004. A new and modern purpose-built campus was opened in Ho Chi Minh City in 2005. The total student population on both campuses now exceeds 5,000, having grown rapidly from small beginnings in 2001.

All degrees are awarded by RMIT University in Australia, giving Vietnamese and international students the opportunity to receive an ‘international’ education within Vietnam. All teaching and learning is in English.

The university is helping to meet the demand in Vietnam and the region’s rapidly developing economies for graduates with international qualifications, fluent English skills and the ability to operate well in a globalised business environment.

The education and training services being offered by RMIT Vietnam ensure that its graduates are fully equipped to meet such demands.

Academic programs include studies in:

  • A number of scholarships are offered to enter these programs, with particular emphasis being given to encourage entry into new and growing academic programs. A substantial program of English teaching supports students needing to raise their standards of written and spoken English in order to successfully commence undergraduate degree programs.

Since it began operations, RMIT Vietnam has granted nearly $US 4 million in scholarships, making a valuable contribution to the creation of opportunities for local people and building workforce capabilities in Vietnam. Research initiatives have taken place in fields including information technology, food technology and safety, infectious disease control and water supply.

The establishment of three specialised Centres – Commerce and Management, Technology, and Language and Learning – aim to give further impetus over time to the encouragement of relevant research activity in Vietnam and the region.

While working hard to meet Vietnamese needs, the university is proud also to be meeting the needs of international employers.  RMIT Vietnam graduates are in strong demand, with graduates moving into international companies such as HSBC, Toyota, ANZ, Bluescope Steel, Unilever, Saatchi & Saatchi, and many others. RMIT Vietnam graduates are known for their high levels of general skill in independent thinking, problem solving, capacity for teamwork, and capability to work effectively across cultures and languages.

A growing number of students are now coming from other countries in the region, such as Cambodia and Laos, and from further afield including other parts of Asia, Europe, America and, of course, Australia.
