RMIT Vietnam works to encourage greater local and regional research activity, particularly in collaboration with the Melbourne campuses of RMIT University.
Some examples include:
Four Masters by Research Three PhD candidates are selected to study overseas under the RMIT University/Nong Lam University Research Program approved by the Ministry of Education and Training. Students from RMIT University in Melbourne visit RMIT Vietnam to conduct a collaborative research project on environmental issues relevant to campus development. This continuing activity is being undertaken by a team of RMIT University students from three disciplines: Environmental Science, Social Science (Environment) and Environmental Engineering. Reports prepared by the students have been provided to management of RMIT Vietnam to assist in campus development. A copy of the reports has also been provided to Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DONRE) for the information of Vietnamese authorities planning to meet environmental needs. RMIT Vietnam students continue to undertake research with joint supervision from professors and experts in Australia and Vietnam in the areas of IT, water and food processing. An example of this has been the work of Van Thi Thu Hao, a PhD graduate who wrote a dissertation on Detection of Enteric Bacteria in Raw Food Samples from Vietnam and Evaluation of Antibiotic Resistance – helping to address a critical national and regional issue in food safety.
Commitment to research on both Vietnam campuses is expected to progressively increase in coming years, particularly in areas relevant to the interests of three key activity centres established within the university during 2008: A Centre of Commerce and Management, a Centre of Technology, and a Centre of Language and Learning.
